Do I have to wipe my phone before sending it?
Yes, back up, sign out of your accounts (this removes Activation Lock on iPhone / the factory-reset lock on Android), and factory reset. We also re-wipe every device to the NIST 800-88 standard and email you a free Certificate of Data Erasure.
What's the most commonly forgotten step?
Removing the SIM card (and any SD card), and signing out of iCloud or removing your Google account before the reset. Skipping the sign-out is the #1 reason trade-ins get held up.
